Carbon in the City. International Perspectives
Climate change is one of the major environmental challenges of the 21st century. Following the alarming reports that have surfaced recently, many governments have begun to react to global warming both on a national scale as well as seeking to further international cooperation on this issue. What has gone largely unnoticed, are the many acitvities on the sub-national level which had started well before the issue has come to the fore in the media. City administrations around the world have already launched successful initiatives to come to grips with air pollution, especially with carbon emissions.
The international workshop hosted by British Council Germany and the Einstein Forum, Potsdam, brings together experts from India, Great Britain and Germany. They will discuss the achievements and shortcomings of current initiatives to achieve sustainability, exemplified in European and Asian capital cities like London, Berlin, New Delhi, and Dangton/Shanghai.
Participants: AbuBakr Bahaj, Southampton; Axel Friedrich, Dessau; Sue Roaf, Tempe, AZ / Milton Keynes, UK; Shambhu Singh, Delhi
