Drawing on her bestselling book Strangers in Their Own Land, Arlie Hochschild explores the concept of the deep story of the American right, the subsequent chapters of that story, from right wing grievance to movement, from movement to Donald Trump’s beatification to his call to arms, and beyond, including a drive to the grandiose and fictional.

Arlie Russell Hochschild is professor emerita of sociology at the University of California, Berkeley. She has long focused on the human emotions which underlie moral beliefs, practices, and social life generally. She is the author of nine books including, most recently, Strangers in Their Own Land: Anger and Mourning on the American Right, a finalist for the National Book Award.
